History

History of Biomet Cementing Technologies AB

1983: MITAB (Medical Innovation Technology AB) was founded in Sjöbo, Sweden.

1984: As the first company in the world, MITAB developes a vacuum mixing system for bone cement.

1993: Optivac replaces the MITVAC-system.

1997: MITAB becomes ScandiMed.

1999: ScandiMed is bought by Biomet Merck, a European Joint Venture between Merck KGaA and Biomet Inc.

2002: ScandiMed changes the name to Biomet Cementing Technologies.

2004: In the Spring of 2004, Biomet Inc. purchases Merck KGaA’s interest in the Biomet Merck Joint Venture which leads to the dissolution of the Joint Venture and the creation of the Biomet Europe Group. 


Biomet Inc., the ultimate parent company of Biomet Cementing Technologies, was founded in 1977 and since then has evolved into a global business.
